Maverick Ultra

Maverick Peak District Ultra – On Saturday myself and Megan took on the Adidas Maverick Ultra in the Peak District. Starting from Bakewell showground the 32 mile route was the ultimate ‘landmarks of the Peak District’ route including Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House, Baslow, ‘the edges’, Padley Gorge, Hathersage, Grindleford and finally a stretch down Monsal Trail past Hassop Station and back to the finish.

But in perfect weather conditions it was a fantastic route on probably the most well signposted race I have ever completed. Even we couldn’t get lost.

After the first 5-6 miles I had some serious stomach issues and had to drop back down the field. But once I managed to sort myself out (never being more pleased to see a green portaloo) I gradually worked my way forward and finished in 3rd in a respectable 4 hours and 37 minutes.

Megan had a much more consistent run compared to both me and her recent attempt at London Marathon. The extra miles, climb and trails obviously suit her well and she finished in a fantastic time of 6 hours and 8 minutes to finish 8th female and 102nd overall.

After being showered with gifts from the many sponsors of the event, and treating ourselves to some overpriced coffee and cakes it was time to put our feet up and enjoy pizza and beer at the Thornbridge Taproom.

Cheers 🍻
