Whilst the rest of us were racing around the relatively tame Derbyshire Countryside, Christine Howard took on the World's toughest iron-distance triathlon in Ambleside on Saturday and was 2nd overall lady, 1st vet40!
3.8km swim in Windermere, followed by The Fred Whitton bike route, 112 miles (181km) and over 12000 feet (3,700m) of climbing (Struggle, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott, Wrynose). Then a run from Ambleside, Great Langdale, Esk Hause, Great End to the top of Scafell Pile and back, 26.2 miles (42.2km, 1,450m).
The race started at 4.30am, and Chris finished in just over 17 hours. The male field was dominated with international athletes including a pro US triathlete who won.
