Dan Haworth has set MAC Members' a challenge -Flash 7 Road Race Challenge 16 years +Short Version: 7 mile loop starting and finishing from the path behind Cavendish Fields Pavillon. Virtual race. Starts: Wednesday 7th April and ends : Thursday 15th AprilLong Version:The year is 1977, Matlock Athletic Club is flourishing with 15 members or so, the White Peak Marathon enjoys its inaugural outing, and so does its until now lesser known and debunked compatriot the FLASH 7 road race.Flash 7 is a classic route around the roads of Matlock Moor, starting now from Cavendish Fields. Runners soon engage gurns in a punishing climb up Farley Lane, all the way to where Flash Dam once stood/lay. Athletes must avoid temptation to stop to feed the pony at Matlock Farm Park and instead embrace the chance to open up the legs along the dizzying heights of Holestone Lane south, heading towards the top of Slack hill; giving fans of the flat a chance to make up valuable time. A hard right onto a narrow trod along the side of Chesterfield Road invites speed as the gradient tumbles, heading back in a blur past the golf club and towards the place we proudly call Matlock. At the Duke of Wellington turn right into Wellington street before the final stretch back along Cavendish Road. It will take grit and determination to squeeze out the last of any energy reserves, as the finish line which marks the line to finish, comes into view.In 1977 Bob Forster won in an impressive 36.37 minutes.*All competitors competing will be rewarded with a huge sense of satisfaction, and the unique experience of a run both up and down memory lane.- The start is behind the Cavendish field pavilion and goes through a field by the farm.- Have fun
