A Mention of Special Thanks

Matlock Athletic Club would like to take this opportunity to thank the "Friends Of Cromford Canal" for their help in assisting the Club in our efforts to ensure the smooth planning of the White Peak Marathon and Half Marathon Event on May the 17th.

Their Narrow boat "Birdswood" usually travels up and down the canal on Wednesdays and Saturdays and single way trips on Sundays and on occasions travels its route in the traditional way of being drawn by Horse. Quite a spectacular site to see along the Tow path of one of our local beauty spots.

On May the 17th, the FCC have taken to decision to have "Birdswood" moored up as a Static Exhibition at Cromford Wharf so as not to interrupt Runners of the event, over the Swing Bridge.

Matlock Athletic Club is very grateful for this assistance and will encourage interested spectators and entrants to take a look at an Icon of the Canals Heritage whilst it is available as an exhibition on the day.

In communications with the FCC, Matlock Athletic Club Members have been offered a Special Rate, should they wish to take advantage of a Trip on board "Birdswood" and should you wish to take advantage of this, then please telephone the Booking Line on 0755 2055 455 and mention you are from Matlock Athletic Club. Proof of Membership will be required before boarding i.e. Club Kit item. Meanwhile, if you would like to take a look at some of the Work that the FCC do, then please follow the link to their website

where you can see pictures of the Narrow boat in action and read interesting articles relating to the restoration of the Historic Cromford Canal.

Many Thanks
Alan
