BDL Race Shipley Park CC

The BDL returns on Tuesday 3rd August at 7:00 pm. This will be a one-off race on the regular summer league course starting at Shipley Hall cricket club, hosted by Heanor RC. As it stands the prize giving for the 2019/20 winter league may take place afterwards, but we shall wait and see on that front. The race HQ is at Shipley Hall pavilion (The Field, Shipley, Country Park, Heanor, DE75 7JH) and parking is available in a field near the venue – please adhere to any parking instructions that the marshals provide, and do consider car sharing / cycling if at all possible.

For runners new to the club, entry to BDL league races is free. The only real stipulations in place are:
  • Club colours have to be worn (i.e. Matlock AC vest / t-shirt)
  • You have to be a paid up member of your club on the day of the race (UKA affiliation is not required, however)
  • You need to be over the age of 14 on the day of the race.
There is no requirement to register for each race - just turn up at the start line in time for the gun. At the finish line you will be handed a metal disc indicating your finishing position. After you have recovered sufficiently this disc should be handed to your club representative (usually me) who will record your name, date of birth and disc number. All of the individual clubs finishing positions and times are then collated and the results published within a few days - the BDL prides itself on a slower pace of life!

Matlock Tri 2021 Cancelled

MATLOCK TRI 2021
Unfortunately the Matlock Triathlon is cancelled for 2021. Despite the relaxation of many restrictions, there remain a number of concerns around how we could organise the event safely, in particular given the indoor start, and uncertainties around what COVID-secure arrangements might be required in future weeks that could scupper the event, or impact the enjoyment of those taking part.
We are hoping for happier times around the corner, and the Tri back in 2022.

MAC Members' Annual Club XC 2021

Message from Karl Webster re the MAC Members’ Club Cross Country

It was unfortunate back in March that we were unable to hold our club’s annual cross country championships, but now we’re allowed to do things like that again we’ll be holding it on Monday evening, 28 June at 6.30pm.As in 2020, we are again honoured with being able to use the grounds of Stancliffe Hall, Whitworth Road, Darley Dale, DE4 2HJ. Something will be in place to guide you to the parking area when you get there and please be respectful of the gardens around the hall.We will all start together but the number of laps you do will depend on your age on the day. Each lap will be a mile and a bit (the bit being undefined at the moment, but we’ll work that out when setting out the course) and will be tough with a good variety of terrain. It will be suitable for spikes, although traction won’t be a problem at this time of year.

Over 16 – 3 laps

Over 12 – 2 laps

Under 12 – 1 lap

Guests will be at the hall that evening so we’re unable to hang around for long afterwards, but we’ll aim to do a finish line presentation. Please don’t arrive before 5.45pm but be ready to start racing at 6.30 please.

New Training Sessions 20th May 2021

Message from Andy Mellor, Chairman

Thank you to everyone who has voted in our poll for how to run training sessions in the future.  It is clear that there are number of members that favour each option – meeting at the Arc as before and the local group runs.

So in the spirit of compromise, the Committee would like to suggest a hybrid approach and we suggest that we trial this initially but keep it under review, so please continue to feedback your thoughts to any committee member.

Thursday 20th May is the first run following the move to step 3 of the Government roadmap, and it would be nice to take the opportunity to congregate at the Arc as we did in the good old days for a MACnificent reunion. Ironically a small number of MACs won’t be present as they are participating in the ‘Chase The Sun’ runs in Leicester.

Our plan is to alternate between an Arc-based group run; a mass away run (over summer, eg around Rowsley, Carsington, Cromford etc); another Arc-based run; and then local group runs. The local group runs will be similar to our current arrangements, but without the limit of six on runners.  We traditionally finish off the evening away runs at a local hostelry.

One of the reasons that the current groups have worked so well is probably that runners have found groups that suit their preferred distance and pace. We are committed to ensuring that Thursday runs are accessible and fun, so although we will congregate together, we want to be able to send out 4 groups (including one group that offers a shorter distance) so that no one feels put off or out of their depth. We need a regular stream of volunteers who are happy to know the route, and to lead a group at an appropriate pace. We’ve had plenty of people willing to lead groups of six over recent months, so don’t be shy – please keep volunteering to head up a group.
