Married to Antony and mother to Isabelle age 11 and Freya age 9 - all MAC members. Works as Administrator for a software company
What is your favourite meal? Chicken fajitas – a favourite for all the family
Stiff drink or herbal tea? Stiff Drink, I like a good Red wine or real ale.
What got you interested in running in the first place? After having the girls, I was overweight, had started smoking again, and was generally unfit. I needed to lose weight and get fitter. I chose running as I get bored really easy in a Gym, and it was something that I could fit in whenever I had a spare half an hour. So I decided to download the Couch to 5k running app, it was awful at first, having not exercised since I left school, but after 8 weeks ran for half an hour solid and was amazed at my progress. I year later I’d signed up to run Sheffield Half Marathon which I completed in 2012 in a time of 2hrs and 9 mins.
How long have you been a member of Matlock AC? I’ve been a member for around 4 years now. Nicky’s Monday night sessions have been great for me. They really push me out of my comfort zones, and there is a great bunch of ladies that really encourage each other. I’ve made some really good friends in the group.
Some stats – 5K- 27 mins 15 Secs. 10K - 54 Mins 17 Seconds. Half Marathon - 2hrs 6 mins 13 Secs
Do you cross train, if so what other sports do you do? Enjoy a ladies-only kick boxing class and Spinning.
Any tips for juggling training and family life? The Monday night sessions are great for me, the kids train whilst I train. I don’t work on Fridays so I religiously allow myself the time for a long run in the morning. Other than that I cram in when I can around taxiing the girls to their various sports clubs
How do you manage the sporting egos in the family? Ha!ha! - just let them get on with it. They’re always very supportive when I telephone in after I’ve finished an event. I do love to go along and support them.
Other interests? Not at the moment with 2 daughters both members of the athletics club, Swim club and also a Triathlon club, both competing in either discipline most weekends, and also working 28 hours per week I find that I don’t have much time. I do help out at the kids’ swimming club and I used to like socialising!
What has been your most rewarding running challenge? I think the first 5k which was a Breast Cancer Race for Life in Chesterfield and I raised £150. At that time 5K seemed like such a long way and completely unachievable.
What is your guilty pleasure? Wine, cake, savoury foods – anything that is full of calories!
If you had a Tardis to where would you travel back or forward in time? I love the clothes of the 1930s/40s, I certainly wouldn’t want their worry about the war and rations though!
Latest music download? Recently had a nostalgic moment and downloaded Alanis Morrisette – Jagged Little Pill. I used to love singing along in my car to this.
Favourite film? Moulin Rouge with Ewan MacGregor and Nicole Kidman
TV? We tend to watch a lot on play back on the Iplayer, these include Eastenders, Call the Midwife and Casualty.
What are you reading at the moment? I need a good recommendation. I’ve not picked up a book for a while. I love James Patterson, especially the Alex Cross series, but also love a good romance like ‘Me before You.’
What is your worst habit? I am very untidy. In fact, the whole household is. We have to have a blitz on a weekly basis when it gets too bad or we’re expecting visitors
What is your favourite holiday destination and why? We love to go somewhere different each year. A recent favourite was the Isle of Raasay in Scotland, a lovely little Island. The girls had a fabulous time swimming in the clear blue sea, in Wetsuits of course. I also have a real soft spot for Coniston. I spent 6 months there when I was 18, and had a fabulous time exploring the area. Flying makes me really anxious; I do it, but it takes several stiff drinks to get me on the plane, and several whilst we’re in the air, but I do force myself to do it as I love the Sun. Malta is another favourite. Ohh and the Pyramids in Giza, that really was amazing. We’re looking at the French Alps for this year’s holiday, I’m hoping to persuade Antony to drive!
Do you have any ideas which Matlock AC could incorporate to improve the club? The Club has moved on and is evolving fantastically well. It is great that members are coming forward to help and with fresh ideas. I have taken on the role of Junior Events Co-ordinator, so will inform Junior parents’ monthly of suitable events by email, organise a group willing to help with reporting and photography at junior events and there will be a tab in the Junior Section of the website in which the races will be included. I have also offered my services with online forms.
