What is your favourite meal? Not fussy, but particularly love fish – sea bass and also enjoy a rare steak

Stiff drink or herbal tea?   Jaipur real ale made by the Thornbridge Brewery in Bakewell

What got you interested in running in the first place?  When the kids were small needed a sport that fitted around the family to unwind when they went to bed.  Running fitted the bill.  I enjoy it as it keeps the stress down and a like long run on a Friday evening.

How long have you been a member of Matlock AC?  Since 1996

With whom would you like to spend an evening in the pub?  Sir Alex Ferguson, former Manchester United Manager.  Have read both his books and really admire him

Some stats – PBs  Not one for keeping a record but did do Sheffield Half Marathon in 2007 in 1.30.

Tips for training? I like the Monday night structured speedwork sessions and I think a training partner is a good idea for motivation and support.

Do you cross train, if so what other sports do you do?  Swim most days which helps with a sciatic injury.  Also cycling and have done the odd triathlon.  Last year cycled from London-Paris for charity.  The weather was terrible and out of 140 riders only 30, including me, finished. I also do a circuit class at the Whitworth Centre called Insanity.  Used to play a lot of football, but tend to watch games nowadays.

Other interests?  I am a season ticket holder at Manchester United. 

What is your favourite holiday destination? I think this country has a lot to offer and particularly enjoy going to Robin Hood’s Bay in N. Yorks.

What has been your most rewarding running challenge? Grindleford Gallop as it is the furthest I have run and I love looking at the scenery

What is your preferred type of race? I am not very disciplined when running as I like to look around and admire the view, so I prefer off-road running.  Used to do a lot of 10ks and enjoy the social side of running.

What was your childhood ambition? It was my dream to play football professionally but only managed to get into local teams

Top of your bucket list? I fancy doing a marathon about September time with a view to gaining a place in the London Marathon.  Think I am ready for a bit more structure to my running and feel fit at the moment.

What is your guilty pleasure? Butter – I even have it on my steak

Favourite music?  Arctic Monkeys.  Have seen them a couple of times in their home town of Sheffield and at Finsbury Park with my 2 sons when we had a great evening of music and beer

Favourite film and TV programme? Beverley Hills Cop (1984 American action comedy film starring Eddie Murphy) was the first video I rented years ago and still love it today.  Sky Sports on TV

What is your worst habit?  My wife would say snoring after I have had a few glasses of red wine

Advice for youngsters? Run with a smile and be careful with your diet

What do you think to the recent changes at the Club? I think the Club is great now with so many new members and a thriving junior section

Do you have any ideas which Matlock AC could incorporate to improve the club? Promote the Thursday night running session to make it more of a sociable run.
