What got you into running and how long have you  been a member of MAC?  Started running as have a sedentary job and wanted to keep active.  As I work in the leisure industry going to the gym would be like going back to work and when we moved back to the Matlock area, with all the beautiful places to run, it was an obvious choice.  Have been a member of MAC for 18 months.

I ran XC at school but never really pursued it and started running proper 5 years ago.

What is your favourite meal? Chicken Biryani and a mixed bean stew I make myself

Stiff drink or herbal tea?  Used to like a stiff drink, but nowadays I enjoy discovering different herbal teas.  Favourite at the moment Peppermint and Licorice tea from Lidl.

Some stats – PBs:  Bristol Half Marathon 2010 1.35.54 and Brass Monkey Half Marathon, York 1.22 2015

Tips for training? I eat chia seeds and drink beetroot juice before training and racing.

Do you cross train, if so what other sports do you do?  Gym workouts and enjoy kite surfing in Spain and used to dinghy sail at Ogston.

Other interests? Avid armchair Arsenal fan.  Particularly like Tony Adams and Freddie ljungberg and Alexis Sanchez. Also enjoy supporting daughter, Olivia’s running, Kite surfing and Motorbike racing

What is your most treasured possession? My running shoes and my Bristol Half Marathon 2010 certificate.

What has been your most rewarding running challenge?  My first marathon at Edinburgh 3 years ago in a time of 3.33.  I have since done 3.02 for Edinburgh and for Chester in 2015 3.03.  I am doing London this year and hope to finish in under 3 hours. 

Best advice you have ever been given? Small steps-lead you to your ultimate destination!

Parties or peace and quiet? Both.  Can party too hard though.

What is your guilty pleasure? Chocolate and the full Starbucks experience – coffee, cookies etc.

Who has been your biggest sporting influence/inspiration?

Interesting !  i always look at sportspeople past and present from a variety of different sports

Favourite film? Young Blood with Rob Lowe.  About Ice Hockey and his discipline to train to the max and Day’s of Thunder

Favourite book?  Used to read autobiographies but am now reading ‘Eat and Run’ by Scott Jurek, Ultramarathoner.

What is your worst habit? Always trying something new!.  With research or if I am told about a new fad which is good for running, I am straight on it.  I subscribe to the Healthy Supplies website and my latest thing is Teff grains from Ethiopia.


Advice for youngsters? Achieve-Believe Stick at it and don’t give up!

Do you have any ideas which Matlock AC could incorporate to improve the club?  No- Just to encourage everybody to be involved in the club.

Next sporting challenge? The Red Bull 400 Challenge around Europe/World.  it is the steepest 400m race running up a ski jump

Ultimate goal is the Transvulcania mountain-ultramarathon in Palma, If I can do sub-3 hours in London Marathon this year, hoping to do the Transvulcania in May 2017.
