Virtual White Peak Running Festival

2 weeks 18 hours ago #4172 by Jan Forrester
Dan Ashcroft reports on the final 2 days of the Virtual Ian Milne White Peak Marathon -"Day 3 day saw excellent performances with Junior Sam Sargeant finishing the 10 mile race in an excellent 1:35:26. Logan Fairey completed the race with his 2nd 5k effort in 42.23. Alice Slater was also doing well.
In the Half Marathon, the leader is now Colin Davenport after he recorded a time of 1:26:07. The award for making it as difficult as possible for yourself goes to Oliver Lloyd who finished his race by running up New Street and Bank Road, Matlock. Other finishers include Jonathan Tyson, David Greatorex, Mark Pollak, Dennis Belbin and Andy Mellor. After walking the first leg on Saturday, Simon Croft decided that walking his way around the course would be the best way to finish as well.
Lisa Jones still leads the ladies Half Marathon and has now been joined at the finish by Rachael Ayre, Helen Emmerson, Penny McCloy and Catherine Else who decided that she would complete the run following a bike ride of epic proportions.
In the Marathon Tony Barrable, as predicted, broke the 3 hour barrier over his 4 runs with a time of 2:58:52 and other finishers included Matt Haywood, Daniel Ashcroft, Tessa Jackson and Nick Gant. Tessa is the first lady to complete the Marathon and took a no nonsense approach by running two half marathons and set a time of 4:33:53. Nick was another one who decided that he would do the Swift Half course and Peter Wilmot also finished by running the challenging Grindleford Gallop route. Jim Thorneycroft redeployed the gravity approach for this third leg which proved so popular during the MAC FM challenge. So Day 4 saw the Virtual White Peak Running Festival draw to a close with 58 finishers across all races.
For the Juniors, in the 10k for under 11s, Logan Fairey was joined at the finish by Juno Mettam and Alice Slater. In the 11-14 age category, finishers included Sophie Carrington, Zachary Clough, Marlene Mettam and Caitlin McCloy, and it was Caitlin who posted the fastest time with an absolutely storming 40:11. In the 10 mile races, the sole competitor in the 15-17 age group was Josh Brooks. In the 11-14 group, Jacob Jones put in another solid performance to finish in 1:08:35.
In the Half Marathon, today’s finishers include Naomi Aburn, Alaina Bond, David Curtis, Dennis Holmes, John Hopkinson, Michelle Lester, Alison Pye (fastest lady in 1:41:45), Ellie Salomoni (who finished in 1:55:60), Les Thurston and Ian Watson. Whilst none of the men could take the lead from Colin Davenport in terms of actual finish time, Les Thurston posted the best age graded time for the men and Ellie Salomoni was the fastest lady using the handicap system.
In the Marathon, the race was completed by Jim Thorneycroft, Christine Howard, Jo Lloyd who posted a sub 4 hour time, and Rachel Sargeant who pushed herself to complete the challenge. However, it was the Kathryn Berrisford, IMWPM Race Director who posted the quickest time in the ladies Marathon finishing in 3:34:38. Credit should also go to late entry, Tom Woodhouse, who ran the Marathon in one attempt yesterday and finished in 3:48:39.
Full results to follow.
I would like to reiterate my thanks to Michelle Lester for setting up the registration and helping collate the results and also to Jim Thorneycroft for the race concept and importing the final results. In addition, we also should be thankful to the late Ian Milne for his dedication and commitment to the Club over many years.
This Virtual event has again shown what a great club this is, and for that, I would like to thank you all for your efforts."Thanks Dan for helping to keep MAC fit and connected!
