Report on Baslow Bolt FR by John Thorpe -
Saturday morning saw the first running of a new Fell race - The Baslow Bolt. 10 Macs turned up in sub zero conditions which firmed up the ground to help running conditions. The course starts in the Church yard then heads out over pasture fields towards Hassop before heading through two wooded sections then it drops down to the river Derwent heading to Curbar before the climbing begins heading up to Curbar gap, turning right onto Baslow Edge ridge line before the final mad descent down Barr road into Baslow to finish at the School covering 7.5 miles and 1200ft elevation.
Joe Oldfield for Mac stormed around taking 1st place in 50:36 next back in 6th was John Thorpe closely followed in 7th by Paddy Wright, Derek Chetwin came 20th. Next back in 21st was Shelley Fairey having a great run to finish 1st Lady, Geoff Cooper took 51st, Scott Thompson 54th, Oliver Brocklehurst 55th, Christine Howard 71st and Les Thurston 169th rounded off the Mac contingent!! There were 229 finishers. Great organised race with some great prizes
