Report from Christine Howard -I took on the TriHards Day in the Lakes Half Ironman, obviously hard due to the 14 mile fell / trail run and very undulating bike ride, and Lakeland weather
with high winds and sporadic rain Sunday.
I had a great race despite an appalling swim where high winds actually blew the swim course away, reducing it to one lap rather than two; something of a
relief as the water was 13 degrees with massive waves making it near
impossible to sight on the now blown away bouys.
Very solid bike ride, two
laps out to Shap and back on a hilly route with stupidly strong head winds then amazing tail winds, and a good fell run, again enjoying the tailwinds
on the way back.
I overtook plenty of ladies to come off the back 6th overall lady, then caught up with another 3 on the run finishing 3rd overall lady in
5 hours 13 minutes. A very good day in the Lakes
