Report from Penny McCloy -
"The National Primary and Year 7 Schools Cross Country finals were held today at Prestwold. 11 MAC juniors had qualified to represent Rural Derbyshire Schools (Derbyshire Dales). There was a representative from the club in each race and they did the club proud, each one giving 110%! It was really tough competition - the best in the country and for some the first time they'd started in such a mass start where elbows are needed and spikes a danger!First up the year 5 girls 2.2km which had 343 runners and was won in a time of 7.27. Marlene Mettam finished 194th (9.24) and Georgia Belbin 230th (9.40)Jacob Jones was the only MAC in the year 5 boys and had a great race finishing 56th (7.54), there were 315 runners and it was run in a time of 7.00 .Year 6 girls had a 2.4km course. Again a single MAC, Ellen Corke finished 152nd (9.36), 344 runners, winning time of 7.38 - faster than the winning time of the year 6 boys!.Year 6 boys had 329 runners and their winning time 8.01. Arthur Limb finished 91st (9.06), Alex Currie 143rd (9.24) and Lawrence Deery-Edge 200th (9.43).Year 7 girls had a 2.8km course and 185 girls competing. The winning time 9.29. Freya Lester had a great run to finish 33rd (10.33) and Caitlin McCloy 65th (10.58).Finally the year 7 boys 186 runners and a winning time of 9.03. Charlie Ross finished 173rd (11.11) and Rhys Lessiter 181st (11.40). Full marks to one of the Derbyshire Dales lads who fell and got spiked at the start but finished the race with 6 holes and a gash in his leg & lots of blood!Congratulations to them all - it was tough and racing against the best in the county."
Thanks to the MAC coaches for their part in the success.
