The James Thorn Fell Race was held on Sunday starting in Glossop. The route heads up a couple miles to 1800ft where runners are tasked with looping the memorial which marks the spot where, in 1945, a group of service men lost their lives as a result of their Lancaster Bomber crashing into the hillside in difficult weather conditions. The race then returns down back the way it came. 4.6 miles 1400ft climb.
MAC Joseph Dicken Oldfield proudly took his first win in a MAC vest after some deft descending on the steep slopes of Bleaklow in heavy snow conditions. Joe, a once keen parkour enthusiast was able to tap into his honed skills to confidently make child’s play of that which others were making a dog’s dinner. With razor sharp reaction, Joe, who prefers to go by his middle name Dicken, responded to an early navigation mistake from the leader, who threw a one minute lead just metres from the summit.
