Report from Andy Mellor on Worksop Half Marathon -
A posse of MACs headed over to Worksop for the annual Worksop Halloween Half Marathon. A slightly undulating course, it doesn’t scream out PB potential, but it does seem to bring out the best in a lot of people. The course skirts around Worksop golf club and takes in a chunk of Clumber Park, making it a remarkably pretty half, particularly if the weather is kind as it was this year.
The race is well attended, with a lot of spectators cheering runners to the finish line and a good atmosphere – one for the future diary if you haven’t done it before.
For MAC, first home with a PB was Simon Flitter in 1:26:31 (81st place). The Fantastic Mr Fox also recorded an impressive 1:28:24 to take 118th place. Other gents in action included Andy Hall (221st in 1:33:50), Jack Cummins (230th in 1:34:28), John Hurley (making it all look too effortless for a man of his years, 279th in 1:36:04), Jason Turner (287th in 1:36:45), Andy Mellor (333rd in 1:38:42), Craig Cantrill (701st in 1:47:35) and Gavin Simmons (1,111st in 1:58).
For the ladies, Kate O’Connor-Parker was first MAC (767th in 1:49:15), Penny McCloy (924th in 1:52:55), Jo Lloyd (1,135th in 1:56:47), Jess Stimson (1,180th in 1:57), Molly Gorman (1,431st in 2:04:30), Naomi Aburn (1,458th in 2:07), Rachel Ayre (1,478th in 2:05:38) and Emma Phillips (1,523rd in 2:07:22).
Jo Grant ran for Milltown Milers, having a great run to finish in 303rd (1:37:22).
The race was won in 1:11:26 with a total of 2,362 finishers.
