Bob Foreman reports -
On Sunday morning I and 80 others lined up for the Padfield Plum Fair Scamper near Glossop.
The race is a FRA registered BS and apart from 200yds of tarmac, at the start and finish, the race is run over fields, grassy tracks and lovely moorland trods. Most of the ascent is gained in the first two miles which is one long drag to the Glossop Low Shooting Cabin. From there it is a fast descent on narrow sheep trods to and beyond Cock Hill followed by a short technical section over a stream and through a disused quarry. The last mile is a return along tracks and fields to the finish.
Unfortunately there were no Plums and no Fair but plenty of Scampering. The first to scamper to the finish was Jake Fearn of Buxton in 37.55 and the first lady was Helen Elmore of Dark Peak, 20th O/A in 44.26. For MAC Bob Foreman was 15th and 1st M55 in 43.02.
There was an U16 junior race, of just over a mile, which Bob dragged Matthew along to and he finished 6th out of the 16 starters.
Another small friendly race on the west side of the Peak District, put on as is usually the case over there, by Des Gibbons and, as always, well organised
