Bob Foreman reports - Lashings of sunscreen was the most important kit requirement for the 170 runners who arrived at the Scout Hut in Hayfield for the Kinder Trog Fell Race, 16 miles and 3,400 feet. The route takes in Lantern Pike before a steady climb via Mill Hill to the edge of the Kinder Plateau and along to the Downfall before descending to Edale Cross, then a very steep descent into a clough and an even steeper climb out before a long drag up to the Big Stone and a mainly 3 mile downhill run back to the Scout Hut.
First runner home was Phil Marsden of Horwich in 1.50.11 and the first lady and 33rd O/A was Nicola Bowen of Dark Peak in 2.28.12.
For MAC Matt Nichols was 17th in 2.22.05, Bob Foreman 36th in 2.29.15, Pete Wilmot 39th in 2.29.51, Geoff Cooper 67th in 2.43.41, Scott Thompson 79th in 2.48.00, Martin Lea 99th in 2.57.01 and Mark Chimley 111th in 3.03.38.
The conditions were challenging due to the heat, virtually no shade and only the occasional breeze on the higher ground. Plenty of free cold drinks and sandwiches back at the Scout Hut and many finishers taking advantage of the shade under the trees in the park at the rear.
