Bob Foreman reports -
On a lovely Tuesday evening 99 runners set off on the Calton Crawl Fell Race, 4.5 miles and 850 feet. The race started with a loop of the field to thin the runners out before a steady half mile up a narrow nettle filled lane which sharpened the senses! This was followed by some great open running over undulating fields before a very steep pull up Soles Hill and an immediate descent back down. More open fields followed before a return back down the nettle filled lane to the finish.
The first runner home was Alistair Thornton of Loughborough University Orienteers in 31.12. First lady was Alison Wainwright of Dark Peak 25th O/A in 40.35.
For MAC, Bob Foreman was 10th and 1st MV50 in 36.39, Oliver Brocklehurst 27th and 1st U23 in 40.42 and Mick Moorhouse 35th in 42.06.
Another lovely village race in deepest Staffordshire with not a footstep on tarmac! Afterwards in the village hall free tea and coffee, sandwiches and cakes for sale which were so good Luke Beresford bought some for his dinner tomorrow! And of course real ale. A barrel of Leatherbritches Brewery's The Bounder laid on its side and and dispensed by gravity, which tasted fantastic especially as Oliver was my chauffeur for the evening
