Report from Nicky Dick on the English National XC Champs -
The races took place on a cold but beautiful sunny day at Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath, London on Saturday with the traditional killer uphill start. There was an enormously long start line funnelling uphill to a tight lefthand bend into a mudbath with lost running spikes aplenty! All MAC athletes put in admirable performances pitching against National Cross Country runners at the top of their game. Over 9,000 runners took part and there were 10 races for different age groups.
Elsbeth Grant took part in the U17 5k Women’s race, she came home 37th place in 20.15. There were 276 runners.
In the U13 3k Girls’ race, Lucy Kuszinski represented MAC and was 449th from 467 runners with a time of 18.10.
In the U15 4k Girls’ race, Lizzie Webster 16.05 in 64th (a minute and a half behind the winner) and Michaela Dick 18.22 in 329th from 464 runners.
In the 8k Senior Women’s race Nicky Dick finished 699th from 1,113 runners in 43.45. 2nd claim MAC runner Kelly Thorneycroft was 101st.
In the 12k Senior Men’s race Paddy Wright was 721st 51.12 and Carl Dyke 1,462th 58.38 from a massive field of 2,328 runners
