Report from Andy Mellor -
The inaugural Bakewell parkrun took place on 6 Jan following it being postponed due to ice in the previous week. Bakewell's Deputy Mayor got things started for the 250 runners that braved the cold but mercifully dry event - the parkrun route is a straight and flat out and back course on trails that will no doubt attract a number of PB hunters; starting at Hassop Station. Simon Brister was first MAC finisher in 14th place and 1st MV65 in 20.18. Sophie Hopkinson was fourth lady and first Junior lady 22.47, Joshua Nuttall also put in a great run in 25.05. Other MACs including Darran Nuttall, Carly Spear, Patrick Wright and Melanie Parmar all enjoyed the route. Rachel West ran with a very heavily pregnant Naomi Barraclough, still smiling at the end of the run, with a number of Sole Mates, the new beginner’s running group - Ben Barraclough; Neil, Caroline and Holly Jones (a family outing), Alison Hall and Graham Curtis.
Oliver Brocklehurst had problems registering and printing his barcode so didn't feature in the official results, but had a great run in MAC colours.
The new parkrun will hopefully provide a useful local opportunity for runners wanting a bit of a Saturday morning blast.
But don't forget that next week is our very own marvellous Whitworth Thread
