Carsington Water 10k & Half, Saturday and Sunday

On Saturday 24th it was the Carsington Water Half Marathon and 10k. The races take place around the undulating, traffic-free trails surrounding the Reservoir. For MAC Carly Spear completed in 47.48. There were also several Sole Mates (MAC’s beginner running group) taking part helping each other along the way all finishing between 1 hour 15 and 1 hour 18 minutes - Alison, Caroline Jones, Catherine McCarron and Michelle Waters. 1st place Simon Ford of Trentham RC in 37.10 and 1st lady Alice Maughan in 45.19. 274 runners.
In the Half Marathon Neil Jones and Rachel West of Sole Mates had great races. Neil completed in 1.38.20 and Rachel in 1.58.52. MACs Vice Chairman, Jim Thorneycroft finished in 1.37.01 which was 1 min. 30 secs. quicker than last year. Well done to Jim. It has been an amazing 12 months; completing 60 races in his 60th year: Derbyshire County Gold at 10k and half marathon distance, County Cross Country Silver, Booths Decorators League (BDL) Summer and Winter League age category wins and the age category series win at No Walk in the Park 5k at Queens Park, Chesterfield. With the age category win at Carsington Half Marathon this makes 36 MV60 'wins'.
1st place James Buis in 1.18.02 and 1st lady Jenny Laing in 1.30.35. There were 229 runners.

Take 2 Carsington Water 10k and Half Marathon also took place on Sunday. Alison Pye reports - 'Beautiful race but so cold!'
In the 10k Alison was 4th lady in 47.01 and Tessa Jackson also had a good run coming back from injury to take 1st LV65 in 1.03.13. There were 163 runners. The winner was Christopher Smith in 38.43. Well done Steph Spencer of Derby AC 1st lady
in 43.18.
In the Half Marathon, there is some confusion with the results but James Fox was first MAC home with Andy Mellor pleased to come in at under 1.40 in 1.37.42, John Thorpe 1.41.06 (2nd race of the weekend!) closely followed by Alaina Bond 7th lady in 1.41.21. The winner was Paul Childs of Black Pear Joggers in 1.19.51 and 1st lady was Caroline Brock of Steel City Striders in 1.27.26. There were 199 runners.
